Q1: WHAT KINDS OF FURNITURE CAN BE REDESIGNED THROUGH A CUSTOM COMMISSION?
Almost any solid-wood piece with good bones — chairs, armchairs, dressers, cabinets, side tables, nightstands, and armoires. You can bring a piece you already own, something inherited or found, or I can source a vintage piece that fits your vision. The goal is to find a form worth saving and redesign it into something personal and visually striking.
Q2: CAN YOU REDESIGN A PIECE I ALREADY OWN OR THAT HAS SENTIMENTAL VALUE?
Yes — and those commissions are often the most meaningful. Whether it is a chair that belonged to a grandparent, a dresser that no longer fits the room, or a piece that simply needs a new visual identity, I work with what you bring. The original material and structure are honored; the surface, finish, and story become entirely new.
Q3: WHAT DOES THE CUSTOM COMMISSION PROCESS LOOK LIKE FROM START TO FINISH?
It starts with a conversation. You share your piece, your space, your aesthetic direction, and your timeline. I put together a scope, creative proposal, and estimate. Once we agree on the direction and you sign the commission agreement with a deposit, I move into production — prep, repair, surface design, finishing, and photography. Delivery or pickup is coordinated once the piece passes quality review. Most commissions take eight to twelve weeks depending on complexity.
Q4: HOW MUCH DOES A CUSTOM FURNITURE COMMISSION COST?
Every piece is priced individually based on the size of the furniture, the complexity of the surface design, materials, and timeline. Commissions typically start around a thousand dollars for smaller accent pieces and scale up for larger or more elaborate work. The best way to get an accurate estimate is to reach out with a photo and description of your piece and vision.
Q5: DO YOU WORK WITH INTERIOR DESIGNERS, SET DECORATORS, OR BOUTIQUE HOSPITALITY CLIENTS?
Yes — and those collaborations are a core part of what AMS ReForma is built for. Interior designers sourcing statement pieces for clients, production designers and set decorators needing distinctive furniture for film or TV, and boutique hospitality spaces looking for brand-aligned furnishings are all welcome to reach out. Rental and placement arrangements for shoots and events are also available.
Q6: WHERE IS AMS REFORMA LOCATED, AND DO YOU OFFER DELIVERY?
AMS ReForma is a Los Angeles-based furniture art studio. Delivery within LA is available and coordinated on a per-commission basis. For clients outside the area, shipping arrangements can be arranged and discussed depending on the piece.
Q7: WHAT MAKES AMS REFORMA DIFFERENT FROM A STANDARD FURNITURE REFINISHER OR RESTORATION SERVICE?
The difference is in the intent. Standard refinishing restores a piece to its original condition. AMS ReForma redesigns it — using fine-art surface techniques, custom imagery, decoupage, hand-painting, and intentional material choices to create something genuinely one-of-a-kind. The result is not a restored antique. It is a functional art object with a new and meaningful story.
Q8: IS SUSTAINABILITY A CORE PART OF HOW AMS REFORMA WORKS?
It is built into every commission from the start. Rather than sourcing new materials, AMS ReForma begins with furniture that already exists — pieces inherited, discarded, or no longer wanted in their current aesthetic form. Solid wood, carved frames, and heirloom construction are preserved and given a second life instead of ending up in a landfill. The surface materials — paints, papers, and finishing products — are chosen with environmental impact in mind wherever possible. The result is a piece that is not only beautiful and personal, but also environmentally conscious — less waste, more soul.
